EXCURSIONS

At Heroes Academy, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. We believe in exposing our learners to the world beyond their textbooks—helping them connect what they learn to the people, places, and possibilities around them.

That’s why we incorporate educational excursions into our programme, particularly for learners in Grades 9, 10, and 11. These outings are designed to spark curiosity, broaden perspectives, and deepen understanding through real-world experiences.

Grades 9 and 10:
Exploring New Worlds

For our younger learners, excursions are used to supplement the academic curriculum and reinforce workshop topics in engaging and memorable ways. Some of the places we’ve visited include:

  • Iziko South African Museum – for a deeper dive into history and science
  • Robben Island – to reflect on South Africa’s past and the value of freedom
  • Exotic Animal World – exploring biodiversity and conservation
  • Two Oceans Aquarium – discovering marine ecosystems and environmental responsibility
  • Norval Foundation – engaging with contemporary African art and creative expression

Grade 11:
Career-Focused Learning

In Grade 11, excursions are more than enrichment—they are an integrated part of the curriculum. Through our Vocational Trade Skills Excursions module, learners are introduced to potential career paths and industries through hands-on site visits.

So far, our Grade 11 boys are set to explore:

  • Polyoak Packaging – a leading packaging company, giving insight into manufacturing and logistics
  • Farmer Angus – an organic farm focused on sustainable agriculture and ethical food production

These excursions are designed to help learners connect their education to meaningful career opportunities and understand how their skills and passions can shape their futures.
