Emergency Response Team

About our ERT

The establishment of the Heroes Academy Emergency Response Team was prompted by a significant influx of requests for psychosocial support from the boys in our programme. These requests have stemmed from various reported instances of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. In response, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) was formed to ensure prompt and thorough attention to all reported cases and support requests. Comprising our dedicated team members including our residential Social Worker, Asanele Buba, Emergency Response Team Coordinator Siyabonga Ntozini, Head of Administration Sivuyile Makatesi, Founder Warawadee Sukonpongpao-Harbich, and Operations Manager Kolping Mbumba, the ERT operates with a clear mandate.

The primary responsibility of the ERT is to directly receive reported cases from our coaches and swiftly initiate follow-up actions. This involves a meticulous assessment of each case to determine the appropriate course of action, which may include providing recommended counselling, making referrals to specialized services, reporting to the Department of Social Development, and collaborating with relevant authorities as necessary. At Heroes Academy, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every participant in our program. Through the proactive efforts of our Emergency Response Team, we strive to provide timely and effective support to those in need, fostering a safe and nurturing environment for all.
