About Us

OUR STORY

Fear of being the next victim has gripped our women and children due to the high levels of violence against them in South Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa has acknowledged that the country is among the most unsafe places for women. Shocking crime statistics from 2022 showed that an average of one adult woman was murdered every three hours.

Despite the many GBVF forums and organizations focused on combatting this issue, it’s concerning that little attention is given to boys who grow up to be men who commit these atrocities. Our boys and men should be at the forefront of this fight, but unfortunately, they are often left behind. Without educating, mentoring, and uplifting our boys to change their behaviour towards women and children, we cannot expect to win this battle against GBVF.

That’s why Heroes Academy was established in 2021. We are a group of passionate individuals who share the same vision of creating a better South Africa by mentoring our boys to become good men.

As The Late Archbishop Desmond Tutu once said, “There comes a point where we need to stop pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream to find out why they are falling in.”

In other words, we at Heroes Academy are going upstream by focusing on the root cause of GBVF and empowering boys to become agents of real and meaningful change.
